Game 8 (24/5/08)
SCORERS: Wengi, Montgomery, Langford
Boys are playing really well at the moment. Great enthusiasm and self belief is clearly evident. Very much improved defensive effort showed with the team preventing any real chances from the opposition, yet creating pressure in the opponents end of the field. Enjoyable goal finished off by Josh had the crowd standing. Only 1-0 at half time, yet Nicko had a few opportunities early, with a free kick being disallowed and other shots just saved by the keeper. A consistent defensive attitude created many chances, one great throw from Chris put Monty away and touched it past an oncoming keeper. A backpass straight to Ben saw him finish calmly past the keeper for a well deserved 3-0 victory.
Best on field – Nathan – Enthusiasm plus. Pete S closely second.

Game 7 (17/5/08)
SCORERS: Klish (2), Mariner (2), Langford, Nicko, Wengi, Someone else.
What can you say. Battle of equal third position, ended up not a battle at all. Yet we took our chances early, kept taking other chances and fought off a brave opposition who scored some excellent goals themselves. The boys played some good football today, yet we still need to work on fitness for it all to count at the end.
Best on field – Paul– Great team attitude to agree to play in goals for an injured Simmo

Game 6 (10/5/08)
SCORERS: Montgomery
Unlucky to come away with only a draw. Lads played very well, defensively tight and bright in attack. Great opening goal from Charles over to Kyle, then perfect cross to Monty to head past the keeper. David’s and Kyle’s earlier shots could have had up us a few at half time, but excellent saves by the keeper kept them in it at 1-0 at half time. They managed a quick second half goal to make in 1-1, then Josh hit the woodwork from a fine move down the right. At the end of the day, we are creating good opportunities and our defense is working better, so all is good.
Best on field – Stewart – for getting up close and personal.

Game 5 (3/5/08)
SCORERS: Montgomery (2), Wengi
Some adjustments were made to the lineup to incorporate a stronger defensive objective. This saw Monty and Nathan join the central defense, and with their height and aerial capabilities, stopped any real goal scoring chances early. The lads kept the ball on the ground and knocked it around to create two superb goals for Monty, and a third which was somehow called offside. We should have held this lead into halftime, but some sloppy clearing saw then get one back for a well deserved 2-1 lead. Second half continued where we left off, with some excellent passages of play. Simmo was having to work hard in goals as they pressed for an equalizer. Kyle and Al got forward well to support Chris, however it was David’s inclusion that saw the final pass for Josh to get his first for the year and put the game beyond their reach. Strong defense today was the key, with Nathan best on the field and Simmo again proving his reliability in goals.

Game 2 (12/4/08)
SCORERS: Langford, Gibson
First home game found us full of expectation. However, the first half was a scrappy affair, conceding easy possession and then struggling to retain it. Some bright passages of play from our front men Ben, Chris and B Nicko saw some real opportunities to open the scoring. Chris had a good shot stopped at the far post by a very handy keeper. Simmo was performing well at our end in goal for his first game of the season. Some more sloppy play saw us lose possession in the mid field and we were one done as a result at half time 0-1. Second half we fought well, but again some loose play saw us squander possession and failing to cover up at the back we were down another 0-2. But to their credit, the boys lifted, defended with more passion and were rewarded with a penalty, coolly taken by Ben Langford to give us some hope 1-2. A few subs were then made to give us more go forward. Wenji and Kyle moved forward to support Chris, and looked to be working when Josh hit the corner crossbar. A dubious penalty though looked to kill us off 1-3, but Kyle hit the shot of the day to still put us in the hunt 2-3. Some unlucky calls would have seen us get a well earned point, but today we didn’t play consistently enough.
Man of the Match – Simmo and Kyle.

Game 1 (5/4/08)

Our new strip, new team, new challenges and great start to the season. First half saw Pumas control the game and leading 1-0 after a great cross from the right from Nicko found Ben lurking on the far post. He still had a lot to do, but headed back to the right post with a looping shot to drop in under the bar for a good early lead. Some nice passages of play ensued with Chris heading onto the post from a neat cross from Ben. A bit of sloppiness from a long throw saw them scramble in a late half equaliser 1-1 half time. The opposition then threw everything at us in the second half. Some desperate defending, some poor finishing from them, really limited our go forward. A contentious penalty against us saw our stand in keeper Adam (Spider) Linnen save again and clear off the line with his legs, Then captain Russ let fly with a stinging shot from 20 metres out that swerved and dipped and gave the keeper no chance. 2-1. Ben Nicho created the opportunity with some great determined mid field defence. A tired opposition finally relented and Chris sealed the win with a well taken shot into the bottom left of the net 3-1. Overall, patches of sloppy play, fantastic soccer in other places, and well taken chances when they came. Coach happy with that effort. Most Valuable - Spider. Kept us in the game with that penalty save. Russ a close second.
