Week 11 (21/6/08) played 9/8/08
SCORERS: Harry, Ronnie
The young Pumas ended a fabulous year with only their second defeat of the season, this time against a well-coordinated Normanhurst A side. The Pumas, by contrast, seemed to be winding down after a successful campaign, which had resulted in 91 goals for, and only 30 against, in their 13 official games before this one.
Harry scored his 36th goal of the year to put the Pumas in front, but by half-time NMH had drawn level. Early in the second half NMH scored two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead, before Mikey came back on and shored up the defence. Issac pulled a goal back, but good passing and strong running by NMH ended up with two further long-range shots finding the net, despite the best efforts of all our boys.
Although NMH deserved their win, our boys can hold their heads high.
After the match each player received a gift bag and certificate of achievement:

  • Top Scorer: Harry
  • Second Highest Scorer: Ronnie
  • Fastest Goal: Joshua
  • Most Determined Player: Issac
  • Most Strategic Player: John
  • Best All Round Player: Mikey
  • Most Improved Player: Ryan
  • Well done, boys.
Thanks to, Kim, Jürgen and Elizabeth for all their work and all the parents for their cooperation and support to ensure an enjoyable and successful season.

    Week 3 (26/4/08) played 2/8/08
    SCORERS: HArry (2), Mikey
Good win boys, with the team back to full strength after the holidays. This was an unusual game for the boys with a scoreless result at half time. Although our boys tried hard to score in the first half, Kenthurst proved to be strong opponents defending well to prevent the PUMAS scoring any goals. As a result, the boys went into the orange break with a scoreless result at half time.
Soon after the second half started, Kenthurst opened the scoring with a goal into the Pumas net. Just as it looked like we may need to concede a loss, Mikey who had been defending well to prevent Kenthurst scoring more goals, scored the equalizer. This was then followed by 2 good goals by Harry with the final result being a 3-1 win by the Pumas.
Man of the Match: Mikey for good all round play and team work.

    Week 13 (5/7/08)
SCORERS: Harry (6), Ronnie (3), Mikey
We are so proud of our team. The boys played beautifully with their passing improving. Harry is back to his normal self with fantastic footwork dribbling the ball around players to score 6 goals. He also had a few near misses. Ronnie was man of the match for playing well, scoring 3 goals and having a great attitude during training and the game. Mikey was amazing at defending and clearing the ball. He too had some near goals and managed to score one. Kenthurst scored when Mikey was on the bench which is a good indicator of the importance of Mikey to the team. John had a really good game and one of his attempts hit the post. Isaac, Joshua and Ryan played their best and managed to clear the ball and make up ground for their team. The boys were not bunching and placing their kick-ins well.
Kenthurst tried their best and scored one excellent goal. They had a good attitude and one of their players got up after having a hard fall. Thank you to Caitlin for keeping score and to Jerry for bringing the fruit.
Man of the Match: Ronnie for playing well and his terrific attitude.

    Week 12 (28/6/08)
    SCORERS: Harry, Issac, Mikey, Ronnie
A good win for the PUMAS in a difficult game against Cherrybrook West Pennant Hills “A’ team (WPH). Although the PUMAS won, the final result could have gone either way. Issac opened the scoring with a goal in the first few minutes of the game. The WPH team then responded with a goal. Ronnie then came on and scored a goal to leave us one up. The lead was short lived as WPH returned fire with an equalizer, to leave the score at 2 all at half time.
After loading up on Vitamin C courtesy of the oranges supplied by Issac’s Mum Tanya, the boys charged into the second half all ready to take the lead again. However, WPH were equally determined to score and nearly went into the lead, had it not been for good running by Harry to save one possible goal, followed up by another one of their balls being deflected by our goal post. Harry eventually broke through to score a goal. Mikey was in good form to both support the defence and score a goal himself to secure the PUMAS for a match winning score of 4 goals to 2. Despite good running by Joshua, Ryan and John, the tight WPH defence ensured that we could not score more goals. Well done PUMAS!
Man of the Match: Harry for good all round play.

    Week 10 (14/6/08)
SCORERS: John (3), Harry, Issac, Mikey, Ronnie, Own goal
The day started out cold and windy: Our young PUMAS had their jackets on until the opening whistle. However, neither the weather nor the absence of play last week deterred our young PUMAS. From the opening whistle, the starting team of Harry, Issac, Ryan and Ronnie were determined to get the ball in the West Pennant Hills net. Eventually between several pairs of legs, Harry got the opening goal. The boys seemed determined to get a few more goals and although dominated play in the first half, had a few “Funniest Home Videos” type moments with difficulty converting shots into goals. Harry’s opening goal was followed by Issac and then, two goals from John after he was substituted into the game. Unfortunately for West Pennant Hills, they conceded an own goal as well to leave the PUMAS five goals up at half time.
Soon after the start of play in the second half, the PUMAS nearly conceded a goal but thanks to good running by Harry, managed to prevent a goal. In the second half, Ronnie and Mikey scored good goals each followed by John who completed a hattrick with a skillful goal. The West Pennant Hills team also managed to score 2 goals to leave the final score at 8 -2. Well done PUMAS!
Man of the Match: Mikey for good play and running.

    Game 8 (31/5/08)
    SCORERS: John (2), Harry
This was a tough game and the Pumas had to play their best against the yet unbeaten Normanhurst B team. John once again showed his skill by scoring two goals. Harry despite not feeling one hundred percent scored an amazing goal accurately booting it in from a distance. It was probably the goal of the match. Without the incredible defense and solid clearing kicks of Mickey the Pumas would most likely have lost. Isaac bravely got up and went back on after being hit hard. Ronnie, Joshua and Ryan played their heart out. It was an intense game with the opponents tackling and defending extremely well. This made it difficult for the Pumas game to flow smoothly. Both teams can be proud of their efforts.
Man of the Match: Joshua for trying his best.

    Game 7 (24/5/08)
SCORERS: John (3), Mikey, Ryan, Own goal
Good game by the boys with a strong win over Normanhurst. About half way into the season, some of the less experienced players are now reading the game much better to get the team into the lead with two early goals from John and one by Ryan in the first half. Ryan almost got a second but just missed an opportunity to put the ball in the net with a well timed kick. Normanhurst were unlucky to have scored an own goal in the first half.
The second half was more evenly matched with Normanhurst just missing a goal off a long shot by one of their players. With good all round play, Mikey managed to get a good run up getting a well deserved goal followed by another good goal from John. With strong running from the forward lines to defence by all the boys including Joshua, Harry, Issac and Ronnie, the young PUMAS managed to prevent the Normanhurst team from getting a goal in the game.
    Man of the Match: John

    Game 5 (10/5/08)
SCORERS: Harry (5), John (3), Ronnie (2), Issac, Ryan, Own goal
The boys had a fantastic game. Overall the control of the ball improved and each player played their heart out. Harry scored the opening goal and set the scene for the rest of the match. Mikey showed his strength in solid defence again and came close to scoring a few times. Ronnie had two amazing goals displaying some good footwork. Issac played with enthusiasm and took a hard knock from one of the opponents but got straight up and carried on. Joshua displayed his amazing accuracy by kicking a terrific long range shot from half way which stopped just inches from the goal mouth. Ryan’s determination eventually paid off when he scored his maiden goal with help from John. John showed great awareness of his team mates congratulating them when they scored. His control of the ball resulted in his three goals. An area the Pumas could improve on is their passing and they need to learn not to take the ball off their own players. Overall they are a great team with a positive attitude.
Thornleigh A were unlucky not to score with a few near misses. They persevered and did not give up trying. Thank you to Jerry for keeping score and to Mike for assisting in the absence of Jürgen.
Man of the Match: John for tightly controlling the ball enabling him to score three goals.

    Game 4 (3/5/08)
    SCORERS: Harry (2), Ronnie
The game started with eager anticipation after the holiday break and wet weather of the last 3 weekends. With clear sunny skies above, the team started with chants of “Go Harry Go, Go Harry Go” from the 3 reserves on the sidelines as Harry got the ball just after the whistle. The Cherrybrook team had a stronger defence than some of the earlier teams our boys had met on the field. Eventually, the team’s efforts were rewarded with a goal by Harry. The cheers on the sidelines proved short lived however, with a goal by Cherrybrook shortly thereafter.
In the second half, Harry and Ronnie scored a goal each, both of which were equalized by Cherrybrook. With a minute to spare to the final whistle, Cherrybrook scored the winning goal. Despite strong running by the young PUMAS, there was insufficient time to equalize, resulting in a new playing experience for the team. Good effort by all the boys.
Man of the Match: Mikey for good all round play especially in defence.

    Game 2 (12/4/08)
SCORERS: Issac (6), Harry (4), John, Joshua, Ronnie, Own goal
A great win today boys – Issac was in top goal scoring form, scoring 6 goals followed close behind by Harry with 4 goals. Joshua, the team’s newest player, who was playing his first ever soccer competition game, scored with a beautiful maiden goal just after getting into the play. Ronnie got a well deserved goal after getting near the goal mouth a few times in the second half.
The Hawks managed to get 2 goals into the net but the strong all round performance by the young Pumas meant that there were no more goals into the net. Mikey played well both in defence and at the forward lines. It was good to see young Ryan enjoying the game as well, being a little unlucky not to have scored with a few near misses. Just before the final whistle, John got his maiden goal with a skilful kick off the side of the post into goal.
All of the boys played well with a well deserved win.
