Grand Final (16/8/08)
Well what can I say – in fact there is nothing I can say here that could adequately express today’s match and result – a massive, outstanding, amazing, absolutely incredible, unbelievable 5 – 2 win over the undefeated Premiers – Putney. We faced our nemesis and thrashed them. Poor Putney didn’t know what hit them. It started mere minutes from kick-off when Andrew struck – the ball rolled – seemed very slow, but sure, could have gone either side of the post, but in it went! The second was an absolute blinder from Alex from way up the pitch, the ball absolutely flew in the air – there was no catching this one and in it went. Two up, we were feeling pretty good, but the game had only just started. Then we were awarded a free kick, once again Alex was up to the challenge and booted it straight into the net. This was followed by yet another fantastic shot by Matt Hobson – four up! Then as luck would have it a little bit of a trip up or something happened and Putney were awarded a penalty which they struck hard and fast into the net – poor Mitch didn’t stand a chance of catching that one. So end of first half saw us at 4 – 1 and Putney looked very downcast at half time, we, on the other hand, were absolutely elated.
We hit the pitch with great enthusiasm for the second half and maybe got a little over confident as Putney put one in the net – fortunately this one was called offside, but the next shot they had wasn’t. Now the crowd was getting nervous – very nervous – could they catch us? Well, no, because Zechariah came up with the finisher, a brilliant goal taking us to 5-2. The opposition had no hope of getting past us now and it was game over.
So now the big question is – guys – was it something you lot ate for breakfast, or all those lollies? You all lifted on the day and played your absolute best. You played as a team should play. Now, just because those who score usually get a mention in the match report does not mean we have forgotten the rest of you, those goals just wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for your hard work, all of you – holding everything together. So to Mitch, Eden, David, Daniel, Daniel, Matthew, Callum, Adam, Brodie, Maddison and Clayton – you did a superb job, as did our scorers – CONGRATULATIONS ALL OF YOU!
U6/White vs Normanhurst A: L 2-5
Week 11 (21/6/08) played 9/8/08
SCORERS: Harry, Ronnie
The young Pumas ended a fabulous year with only their second defeat of the season, this time against a well-coordinated Normanhurst A side. The Pumas, by contrast, seemed to be winding down after a successful campaign, which had resulted in 91 goals for, and only 30 against, in their 13 official games before this one.
Harry scored his 36th goal of the year to put the Pumas in front, but by half-time NMH had drawn level. Early in the second half NMH scored two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead, before Mikey came back on and shored up the defence. Issac pulled a goal back, but good passing and strong running by NMH ended up with two further long-range shots finding the net, despite the best efforts of all our boys.
Although NMH deserved their win, our boys can hold their heads high.
After the match each player received a gift bag and certificate of achievement:
Well done, boys.
Thanks to, Kim, Jürgen and Elizabeth for all their work and all the parents for their cooperation and support to ensure an enjoyable and successful season.
U10/5 vs Normanhurst: W 5-0
Semi Final Round 2 (9/8/08)
SCORERS: Isaac (3), Callum B, own goal
A big win to get through to the Grand Final. Great effort from the whole team.
U11/2 vs Hills Hawks: L 1-6
Semi Final Round 2 (9/8/08)
“Ouch”……..This was not the fairytale end we had planned for our season. After playing so well last week…it all fell apart today. However…all credit to our guys and girl….we went down fighting and put in a big effort even down to the last whistle. Nathaniel really went for everything today and didn’t pull out of one tackle and was hungry for the ball….it was really nice to see your commitment today. We had a big task ahead and we missed Charlie and Matt and even Dale was not his spritely self today…..but thanks to Harry, Liam and Kad for doing a great job filling these positions over the last couple of weeks. On the whole….we were still in this match with 15 to go……..but we lost some momentum after Dale’s goal and the Hawks swooped in for the kill with some soft goals in the dieing minutes.
Hold your heads high team…..if the competition finished on time like it should have (3 weeks ago) it would have been a very different result. All credit to the Hawks….they played great soccer today and really moved the ball up field and showed great control from their keeper to their strikers. Lets hope they can dish out the same stuff to North Epping next week. …but soccer’s a funny game…maybe this was just their day.????
A big thanks to the Mums (and Dads) who bought the kids along to training and the games each week…….Yes…..I wanted to stay in a warm bed plenty of times….but I wanted to win more. Thanks to Peter and Phil for helping with the trainings, thanks to Liz for her great management skills and for giving us a nice smooth year and finally…..the kids…thanks for giving us parents something to yell about every Saturday morning.
You have done your parents and the club proud and it has given us a great base to build a strong Division 1 side next season.
U12/5 vs WPH Cherrybrook: D 1-1
Semi Final Round 2 (9/8/08)
SCORERS: Joshua McAdam
Every time Pacific Hills 12/5 comes up against WPH this year, you know it’s going to be a tough match, and this was no exception. Our team was a little bit stunned to be down 0-1 at half time, but after a rousing pep talk at half time they went out fired up to take back control of the match. Time rolled on and still the score was against us. Then with minutes to go, Josh lifted a screamer over the head of the goalkeeper to get us back into the match. Whether or not this is our last match for the season, it’s been a fantastic year, and every player can hold their heads up proudly. Well done!
Best Players: Because of the comeback we decided to award the honour to the whole team. I know it rather defeats the purpose, but there wasn’t a player on the field who didn’t give 100%.
U17/3 vs WPH Cherrybrook: W 8-1
Semi Final Round 2 (9/8/08)
Scorers – Steve Kirkby (4) , Josh Nicholson, Jeremy Tam, Sammy Belmonte, Harry Mahaffie
An entertaining game – team goals abounded – well done !!
We are looking forward to the Grand Final next week with great anticipation and excitement.
U13/3 vs Hills Hawks: D 0-0
Semi Final Round 2 (9/8/08)
This was a first for the season today – a draw!! 0-0 with Hills Hawks. We’ve won, lost a few times but never had a draw. We got of to a great start with our guys putting on a fantastic performance right from the whistle. But then the Hawks lifted their game and it was obviously going to be very close. Half time saw no score but plenty of exciting moments especially the one where the opposition had a very near shot at goal just before the whistle. Andrew had a couple of very near shots as well and at one point was just in front of their goal ready to strike, it looked like their goalie couldn’t make up his mind whether to stay or come out – unfortunately for us he came out and managed to snatch the ball off Andy’s foot – very disappointing for us.
The second half saw a huge amount of defending from both sides, but we knew all we had to do was hold them to a nil all draw and we were into the Grand Final. It would have been nice to score a goal but we were all very happy with the end result. Now we have to go through ANOTHER nerve wracking week. I think it’s going to be a l o n g week. Our Man of the Match trophy went to Matt Burke who had an excellent game today – very focused and determined – well done Matt. We are now officially “finalists” and have to concentrate on a big win for next Saturday – Good Luck everyone.
U8/Purple vs WPH Cherrybrook: W 5-0
Week 11 (21/6/08) played 9/8/08
SCORERS: Riley Behlevenas, Daniel Mathews (2), Joel, Ayrton
The Under 8 Purple had another great game this week- if only it wasn’t our last one and we could carry on to some finals! The boys took a little while to score but soon realized that passing and positions were what they were lacking. Once they sorted this out they were back on track. All the players of this team have really improved over the season and we as parents have enjoyed watching their progress. Well done guys for a great season it has been great fun to watch you every week.
U7/Green vs Pennant Hills: W 7-1
Week 11 (21/6/08) played 9/8/08
SCORERS: NIXON (2), RYAN (3), WILL, BLAKE
Our last game of the season and what a game it was. A win of 7-1.
The Green Machines were on fire today. I think knowing that it was their last game they played their little hearts out and it showed.
Fantastic goals from Nixon with 2, Ryan with 3, Will with 1 (although Nixon thought it should have gone to him) and Blake with 1. Well done guys!!!! There also were so many great tries for a goal from Ethan and Brooke but just missed by a smidge. Zach showed us some fancy backwards heel kicking. We were all amazed with ooooo’s and ahhhhh’s. Aiden again showed us some fantastic teamwork passing to his fellow Green Machines.
A great ending to a season, although a little sad that it is all over.
Thanks to Coach Stew for coaching The Green Machines. Couldn’t have done it without you. It was also fun managing this team of such happy and fun loving kids and thanks to all the parents that came to support their kids and scream from the sidelines, although Vanessa gets a gold star for being the loudest!
No player of the week this week as being our last game you all deserved to get it.
See you all next season.
U8/Gold vs Kenhurst: W 2-1
Week 11 (21/6/08) played 9/8/08
SCORERS: Christopher Stroud, Dominic Jones
A great game as all players put in their best and played their positions well. The team have shown continuous improvement as the season has progressed and enjoyed their last game of the season together.
U6/White vs Kenthurst B: W 3-1
Week 3 (26/4/08) played 2/8/08
SCORERS: HArry (2), Mikey
Good win boys, with the team back to full strength after the holidays. This was an unusual game for the boys with a scoreless result at half time. Although our boys tried hard to score in the first half, Kenthurst proved to be strong opponents defending well to prevent the PUMAS scoring any goals. As a result, the boys went into the orange break with a scoreless result at half time.
Soon after the second half started, Kenthurst opened the scoring with a goal into the Pumas net. Just as it looked like we may need to concede a loss, Mikey who had been defending well to prevent Kenthurst scoring more goals, scored the equalizer. This was then followed by 2 good goals by Harry with the final result being a 3-1 win by the Pumas.
Man of the Match: Mikey for good all round play and team work.
U7/Green vs Normanhurst b: D 2-2
Week 3 (26/4/08) played 2/8/08
SCORERS: Caden, Ryan
Normanhurst b side were great to play against. They are a strong team and gave us a good workout. Fantastic Game played by both sides. A draw of 2-2.
Our goals were scored by Caden with one with a great set up from Nixon and one from Ryan. Thanks guys.
Poor Blake got winded and had to come off but he still played a fantastic game when he was on. Brooke was a fantastic team player and so many attempts at goals…even though she is our only girl on the team she gives the boys a run for their money. Ethan, William and Zach so many times got the ball to our side of the field but we just couldn’t quite get it in the goals due to Normanhurst’s defence, but a terrific effort all the same. Aiden today showed a huge amount of team work and helped with defending the ball.
Player of the week went to Ethan…….WELL DONE MATE!!!!!
U11/2 vs Roselea: W 2-0
Semi Final Round 1 (2/8/08)
We had a fight on our hands this morning but I all fell into place as scripted with a spirited 2-0 win over our foes at a breezy school oval this morning. Roselea came out hard and camped themselves firmly in our half for the first 10-15 minutes and the coach and crowd were nervous, nervous, nervous. Harry, (a.k.a. “rubber man”) pulled off a ripper of a save diving to his left and covering a ball that was earmarked for the left hand corner….we loved it. Still……Roselea couldn’t find their mark and our team composed themselves and started to grind out a win. Andrew scored our first goal with a volley that came from a cross from the wing and we went to the break 1 nil up but with plenty of work still left to do. We needed some speed up front and some driving kicks to provide some momentum that we could work with. Sammy was brought back into defence to clear and drive and she did just that. Sammy drove up to Josh, Josh crossed to Joel and hey presto…”Joela Joela” gets number one for the season. (well done…we knew it was in there somewhere.) Jeremy was everywhere today and was a deserved “MOTM” recipient….he chased down everything today. A special “THANKYOU” to our star sweeper Charlie, who played his last game before he departs to the USA to show Beckham a thing or two. You have done yourself and your team proud Charlie….we couldn’t have got this far without your speed and skill and for that we all say “Bon Voyage” and we will be thinking of you.
Next week…Hill Hawks……so plenty of soccer left yet. See you Wednesday.
U17/3 vs Carlingford Redbacks: W 6-2
Semi Final Round 1 (2/8/08)
Scorers – Steve Kirkby (4) , Josh Nicholson (2)
A tense game to start - our opposition ensured every last player was between us and the goal. The game was exciting as a lot was at stake especially as we have never managed to win over Redbacks this season. Well done to Nicho and Steve for being able to kick the ball in definitively after wonderful team efforts each time. The sideline certainly enjoyed the game which was played with a really good spirit.
U13/3 vs WPH Cherrybrook: W 2-0
Semi Final Round 1 (2/8/08)
SCORERS: Alex Szanto, Andrew Meikle
Welcome back team – another win - this time 2-0 over West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook. Great to have all the team back together again and looking as strong as ever. We had a tough match on our hands today with the opposition putting on a very strong show. They were very determined to win, they obviously wanted a shot at the Grand Final, but…. so did we!
Time was dragging on and we were well into the second half with not a goal in sight – you could feel the tension in the air – were we going to go down to a draw or even worse, a loss? Finally and to everyone’s relief Alex came up with the goods – it didn’t look like it was going to go in but it bounced over their goalie’s head and in it went – you could hear the crowd roar clear across Dural, it was THE BEST goal and boy did we need it. A few minutes later Andrew picked up the ball and put our second one in the corner of the net. Fantastic job guys, but next time we REALLY would appreciate it if you don’t wait so long to score, your poor manager and coach were having some very, shall we say, “anxious moments” as were most of the parents!! Once again the better team prevailed and well done to Callum who earned Man of the Match for a very solid and well played match.
